IME Trustee Vacancies

The IME are looking for new, experienced and committed Trustees to play an essential role in the governance and development of the charity. You need not have been a charity Trustee before. Together with the other Trustees, you will have ultimate responsibility for the strategic direction of the charity and for ensuring that the IME meets its aims. You will ensure that the IME complies with charity law and is well-run.

At the next AGM up to 3 Trustees will be elected by the IME membership. These positions are open to; members wishing to stand for a first term of office, the 3 current Trustees who have come to the end of their term of their first term of office (two have decided that do not wish to stand), ex-Trustees who have not been on the board in the last 10 months.

The term of office for Trustees is 5 years. Trustees can serve a maximum of two consecutive terms of office.

You will be willing and able to attend the quarterly meetings (It is expected that each year, 3 will be held online and the one face to face meeting is usually held in London). This position is entirely voluntary and is therefore unpaid. Full travel expenses will be reimbursed and applications from members across the UK are welcome.

If you are interested in applying, please submit a short CV and a brief statement (500 words maximum) outlining why you wish to become a Trustee and explaining what you can contribute to the IME as a Trustee, to Phil Greenwood, Chief Executive, IME (philg@ime-uk.org) by 9am on 28th July 2023.

Trustees will review the submissions and shortlist candidates according to suitability to serve as an IME Trustee. All shortlisted candidates will have their statement and short CV uploaded to a voting platform for all members to view; voting will conclude before the AGM which is to be held mid-September 2023.

The Institute of Medical Ethics is committed to embracing diversity and equal opportunity among its membership and the wider medical ethics community. We therefore wish to build a team of Trustees that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills.

Whilst members from all backgrounds are welcome to apply, it would be particularly useful to have applicants with experience in financial governance.
