Context of medical practice

Students should be able to:
• Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of trust and integrity in research

• Evaluate the ethical, legal and professional considerations involved in biomedical research, including additional limitations on research with children and other vulnerable individuals

• Explain the difference between research, quality improvement, and educational activities, and when to seek ethics committee approval

• Reflect on ethical issues arising from research in resource-poor settings

• Identify potential conflicts of interests in research
