Journal of Medical Ethics is a leading journal covering the whole field of medical ethics, promoting ethical reflection and conduct in scientific research and medical practice. JME is edited by Professor John McMillan and features articles on ethical aspects of health care relevant to health care professionals, members of clinical ethics committees, medical ethics professionals, researchers and bioscientists, policy makers and patients - A quarterly copy of Medical Humanities
Medical Humanities is an international journal edited by Dr Brandy Schillace. It publishes scholarly and critical articles on a broad range of topics. These include history of medicine, cultures of medicine, disability studies, gender and the body, communities in crisis, bioethics, and public health. Full UK Membership is £80, although a discount of £10 is offered should you sign up to pay by Direct Debit.
Concessionary Membership, which is available to Foundation Year Doctors is £70, with a discount of £10 should you sign up to pay by Direct Debit.
Student Membership, which does not give access to any printed materials with the newsletter and Journal being made available online, is £12 irrespective of method of payment.
Overseas Membership is £80
Membership is open to anyone interested in furthering the objects of the IME, improving education and debate in medical ethics, and helping to advance the education of medical practitioners and students in the impartial understanding and practice of medical ethics and law to further integrate these disciplines into clinical practice.
Members should also meet at least one of the following criteria:
A person who is registered with the General Medical Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Council or with a regulatory body of a Profession Allied to Medicine, including overseas persons;
A person conducting teaching or research in Medical Ethics, Medical Law or Medical Humanities in a UK or overseas Higher Education Institution;
A person who has retired from either of the above; or
Any other person approved by the Trustees with relevant expertise.
Medical Students
The easiest way to pay your membership fees is by debit/credit card. Membership fees can also be paid by cheque (made payable to Institute of Medical Ethics) or **Direct Debit (**members must have a UK bank account).
