Bi-weekly Round up: 4th April 2022
Back to basics with our latest edition of our bi-weekly round up focussing on current bioethics topics, such as conscientious objection. Have a read and enjoy!
1. Vaccine uptake in Ukraine has been low – countries receiving refugees need to help people get their jabs
Should more be done to increase vaccine uptake for refugees to prevent transmissible disease, prior to accepting refugees? Or would that be an unethical example of nationalism over globalisation?
2. Pandemic saw large rise in patients self-funding hip and knee replacements
Is this a problem? Does this ensure better allocation and fairer distribution of NHS resources, if those who can afford treatment self-fund ? Or does this widen health disparities?
3. Disincentives for vaccine refusal
Fantastic graphic demonstrating differing international approaches to vaccine disincentives
And finally, one for those with IME membership (Sign up here).
4. Conscientious objection and the referral requirement as morally permissible moral mistakes
Further exploration of the concept that the requirement to refer patients to a non-objecting provider (when a provider conscientious objects) is morally questionable
