The Postgraduate Student Committee is recruiting!

By lorrainep · September 6, 2023

The Postgraduate Student Committee is currently open for applications. The main aim of the PSC is to nurture postgraduate bioethics community in the spirit of  learning, knowledge exchange and academic interaction. You can find out more about our history here. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to get involved in organising opportunities for the postgraduate bioethics community, and to work with a really great bunch of people (that is a totally objective assessment, of course). Our main event each year is PGBC, but we also arrange several workshops to help postgraduates in bioethics develop a range of useful skills. We are a friendly group and are looking forward to welcoming some new members to help plan next year’s events! PSC meetings will take place at least once per quarter, with at least one meeting annually being held face-to-face. All committee members are responsible for attending meetings. Please also feel free to reach out to any current members of the committee to ask any questions you may have – we are happy to have a chat.

We have several positions open:

Secretary (x2) – this is a joint role. The secretaries are responsible for arranging PSC meetings in coordination with the chair, taking the minutes of PSC meetings and for distributing those minutes to all PSC members. The secretary is also responsible for ensuring the PGBC conference report is written and distributed as well as distributing any key PSC activities to the committee.

Chair (x1) – This is a joint role with the current chair. The Chairs are responsible for planning meetings of the PSC, reporting to the IME Trustees, deciding upon the direction of the PSC, and delegating responsibilities to individual PSC members.

Committee member (x3) – PSC members must endeavour to attend all PSC meetings, including at least two meetings in person during their tenure (except non-UK domiciled members who may attend remotely). When attendance at a meeting is not possible, PSC members must notify at least the Chair or Secretary  within a reasonable time prior to the meeting. PSC members are expected to take an active part in the work of the Postgraduate Network. This includes but is not limited to, supporting PGBC hosts, contributing to the PSC newsletter and social media, contributing to funding applications, co-ordinating the Alumni Mentoring Network and assisting with the design and delivery workshops and other network activities.

To apply for the committee, complete the online application form. If you have any questions please email:

The closing date is 5 pm Monday 11th September
